Getting Around Krabi

The iconic way to reach Railay Beach, Tonsai, and nearby islands. Boats depart from Ao Nang Beach and Krabi Town pier throughout the day.
Boats to Railay run until around 10pm. After dark, charter a private boat.
Motorbike Rental
The most flexible way to explore Krabi at your own pace. Rentals are widely available in Ao Nang and Krabi Town. An international driving licence is required.
Always wear a helmet. Roads can be slippery in the wet season.
Tuk-Tuk
Four-wheeled tuk-tuks are great for short hops around Krabi Town and Ao Nang. Always negotiate the fare before departing.
Tuk-tuks are not metered — agree on a price first.
Car Rental
Ideal for day trips to the Emerald Pool, Tiger Cave Temple, and Klong Thom Hot Springs. Several international and local rental agencies operate at the airport.
Book in advance during high season. An international driving permit is required.
Grab (Ride-Hailing)
Grab operates in Krabi Town and Ao Nang. More reliable pricing than tuk-tuks for longer journeys. Download the app before you arrive.
Grab is not available on the islands — use longtail boats there.
Practical tips
A few things worth knowing before you travel.
Best time to fly
Book flights 2–3 months in advance for high season (November to April). Prices spike around Christmas, New Year, and Songkran (Thai New Year, mid-April).
Visa on arrival
Citizens of most countries receive a 30-day visa on arrival at Krabi Airport. Check the Thai Immigration Bureau website for the latest list of eligible nationalities.
Currency & ATMs
Thailand uses the Thai Baht (THB). ATMs are widely available in Ao Nang and Krabi Town. Most charge a ฿220 foreign transaction fee — bring some cash from home to minimise fees.
SIM cards
Buy a local SIM card at the airport on arrival. AIS, DTAC, and TrueMove all offer tourist SIMs with generous data for around ฿300–฿500 for 30 days.
